Left as mulch
The chips can be raked into garden beds or spread around other trees.
Stump in the way of the mower, a garden or new sod? We grind it below the surface so you can plant over it.

A stump left after a takedown is more than an eyesore. It's a trip hazard, something to mow around, and in some species it keeps throwing up suckers for years. Pulling it out with an excavator tears up the lawn; grinding takes it away without the crater.
A stump grinder chips the stump and its main surface roots down below ground level. The deeper we go, the easier it is to seed, lay sod or plant something new in the same spot.
Before any digging or grinding near buried lines, locates should be requested through Ontario One Call, which costs nothing. Grinding is often booked with a takedown, but old stumps on their own are fine too: call our Midland tree crew with how many you have and roughly how wide they are.

Chips or topsoil go back into the hole so the spot is ready for seed.
Everything raked up and taken off the property.

Compact grinders fit through many backyard gates, so fenced yards are rarely a problem. Tell us your gate width when you call.
Stumps right against a foundation, fence post or driveway edge can be ground close, but not always flush, so we'll show you what's realistic at the estimate.
Large surface roots running across the lawn can be ground out along with the stump if you want a clean, level surface.

Typical local prices, not a quote: stump grinding usually runs $150 to $500 per stump, based mainly on diameter. Several stumps on one visit can bring the per-stump price down.
Hardwood, big root flares and hard-to-reach spots add time. Estimates are free.
Deep enough to seed or lay sod over. If you're planting a tree or putting in a patio, tell us and we'll go deeper.
Grinding removes the stump and the main roots near the surface. A few species send up shoots from leftover roots for a season; they're easy to mow or pull.
